Two ACROSS committee members, Peter & Dr Tan, returned on 23rd Jun from the USA after attending an intensive 2-week disaster relief training. We thank God for their safe return. KAREN MEDICAL RELIEF TRIP # 2 (posted on 10 Jun 2010) The team of medical and non-medical volunteers arrived safely back to Singapore on Tuesday 8th Jun 2010 after spending 3 days at the Thai-Myanmar border. For immediate needs. the ACROSS medical team treated about 700 Karens (both young and old) and the other volunteers gave out rice (20 kg bags). About 12 tonnes of rices were distributed. Also, about 550 sarongs were also given out, one to each family.  
For preventing measures, the ACROSS team gave out about 110 mosquito nets, one per family, in one village to stem the spread of malaria and 2(two) heavy-duty water purifiers to ensure safe drinking water. Health education and children activities were also carried out.  EARTHQUAKE IN CHILE (posted on 27 Feb 2010) On 27 Feb 2010 (6:34:14 AM UTC ) an earthquake of magnitude 8.8 and depth 35km has struck an moderately populated area in the Bio-Bio Province (population: 1.7 million) in Chile. More details to follows. picture from WashingtonPost A MAJOR EARTHQUAKE HIT HAITI ON 12TH JAN 2010 DEVASTATING THE ENTIRE CITY AT PORT-AU-PRINCE. ************************************************************** NON-MEDICAL ACROSS TEAM IN PADANG (17th Oct to 20th Oct) (posted on 17th Oct 09) A non-medical ACROSS team (Peter, Hide & Neil) is in Padang from 17th Oct to 20th Oct 09. The team will distribute 60 tents to affected families, support financially the communal kitchens run by our partners and assess reconstruction project(s) opportunities with our partners in Padang. A prototype house being built which ACROSS may consider supporting in the reconstruction phase of the relief to the Padang earthquake.
2ND UPDATE ON PADANG EARTHQUAKE (Posted on 8th Oct 09) A medical team from St John's St Margaret's (Anglican) church left for Padang on Thu 8th Oct 09 and returning on Tue 13th Oct 09. Subsequent medical teams are being planned. The dates for the future trips will be posted here. A non-medical team comprising volunteers from ACROSS will leave on Sat 17th Oct 09 to follow up on the relief projects that ACROSS intends partner with friends on the ground. ACROSS is also exploring the possibility of reconstruction with a Christian Indonesian NGO. INDONESIA - PADANG EARTHQUAKE (posted on 3rd Oct 09)  ACROSS is currently gathering information from associates who are currently at ground zero or will be there by tomorrow. Once we are able to establish all the necessary practical links and appropriate relief response to specific place(s) a relief project will be developed. Meanwhile, we covet your prayers for the people of Padang as well as the volunteers helping in the search & rescue and the relief work. A medical team comprising of 10 doctors, 4 nurses and 6 helpers visited 3 settlements of EDPs and provided medical treatment to over 1,200 patients. The needs there cannot be ignored. Future trips, including food relief and medical relief, are being planned.
