(Updated on 3rd Jul 08) MYANMAR (Cyclone Nargis) - RECONSTRUCTION PHASE After the meeting with Abp Stephen in Bangkok on 30th Jun 08 (he was en-route to Lambeth) we are glad to inform our supporters that relief work is still on-going - providing food, household essentials, bamboo & tarpaulin sheets for temporary shelters, etc. The relief work is hard work and your continued prayers for this nation is greatly appreciated. Trauma counseling training was also conducted by the Diocese of West Malaysia and the Thai Anglican teams when they were there. Draft blueprints for reconstruction were also discussed and the estimated cost of each permanent house (about 560 sq ft) is about USD4500/house. The parishes in Singapore will be challenged to make a 2nd free-will offering in July 08 via offering envelopes (similar to the ones used for Mission Sunday) for reconstruction work in Burma (Myanmar). SICHUAN, CHINA (Earthquake) - RECONSTRUCTION PHASE Together with the appeal for Myanmar, we will also be collecting for Sichuan and the free-will offering collected will be channelled to the churches there to assist them in the reconstruction work.
