SPECIAL COLLECTION FOR AL AHLI HOSPITAL, GAZA

The recent special collection for Al Ahli Hospital (an Anglican hospital) in Gaza under the care of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem amounted to about S$144,713.  Your sacrificial giving to assist the hospital in stocking up medical essentials to treat the victims of the recent military confrontation will, I believe, greatly appreciated.  THANK YOU!

An ACROSS team comprising of Michael & Boon Ann finally managed to get our visas to visit Myanmar from 17th Dec 08 to 20th Dec 08.  On arrival, we immediately met up with Archbishop and his project committee.

The following day, we left for the delta to visit a village situated at the south-western coast of Myanmar.  We were accompanied by 8 volunteers (two doctors, one dentist, one tour guide, one businessman, and 3 students).  Our journey took us through a 9-hour road trip and 3-hour boat ride to reach our destination.

The village we visited has only been visited by a local NGO and we (Singaporeans) were the first foreigners to step on their land.  This was a humbly experience for us.

80% of the inhabitants in this village perished during the cyclone.  In response to help this village, the church has began the reconstruction phase and will go full swing as soon as the authorities grant them the permit to begin.  A prototype house has already been built. (see picture)

There are also plans to provide a pair of buffalos for each family so that they can begin working on their padi fields.  Having said this, please pray that God will turn "wastelands damaged by the salt waters" into fertile land again.  Only God can do that!
